Creating drills with the drill editor

A drill that only exists in your head is a drill only you can run. Five minutes in the editor turns it into team equipment — complete with category, phases and scoring.

The anatomy of a well-recorded drill

New drill in the Koach drill editor: name, category selection, phase and description with scoring
The editor enforces completeness: name, category, phases and a description with scoring.

How to create one in Koach

  1. Open Practice → Drills → New drill.
  2. Give it a name and category — these determine how you find it later in the library.
  3. Add phases if the drill has a build-up.
  4. Write the description and save. The drill is immediately usable in any practice programme.

Make it measurable

The best drills have a score: first pair to ten points, two points for hitting a target zone. A score gives players something to fight against and gives you an objective indicator — if they reach the score more easily today than last month, something has genuinely improved. Always put the scoring in the description.

Test your description: have your assistant set up the drill using only the text from the editor. Wherever they start asking questions, your description is not finished yet.

Frequently asked questions

How detailed should the description be?

Four to six lines: goal, setup, flow, scoring. Add the typical mistake you want to prevent. Anything longer will not get read in the gym anyway.

When do I split a drill into phases?

As soon as you let it escalate in practice: first dry, then with a serve, then with a block added. Recording phases means you do not have to reinvent the build-up every time.

Can I modify an existing drill without losing it?

Save variations as a separate phase or as a new drill with a version name. That keeps the original usable for the coach who runs exactly that version.
