Tracking attendance at volleyball practice without the hassle

"Who was missing last Tuesday again?" If you have to guess the answer, you are also guessing when you hand out playing time. Tracking attendance sounds like paperwork, but it is really ammunition for fair decisions — as long as it costs you no time.

Why tracking attendance pays off

Three reasons why serious coaches record attendance:

The paper list versus the app

The classic attendance sheet has two problems: it gets lost, and it does not add itself up. At the end of the season you want percentages, not a stack of paper. In Koach you open today's practice and tick off each player: present, late or absent. The counter at the bottom keeps score — 8 out of 10 present — and the season percentage updates automatically. Players with their own account can also mark themselves present or absent if you like.

One tap per player: present, late or absent — plus an optional effort score per practice.

Being present is not the same as being engaged

The best addition to an attendance list is an effort score. The player who shows up but coasts through practice disappears in a simple tick-box system. By giving each player a quick score after practice (in Koach: 1 to 5 stars), you build a much fairer picture. Half a season in, you see not just who was there, but also what that was worth.

Tip: score effort right after practice, in the thirty seconds before you leave the gym. A day later the impression has already faded and everyone ends up with a polite average.

The season picture: attendance on your dashboard

Individual practices are data; the season is the story. The Koach dashboard shows each player's attendance percentage for the whole season side by side — from the diehards at 100% to the player stuck at 40%. That overview is just there, without you ever adding anything up.

Bonus: your practice plan in the same place

Attendance is step one; what you train that evening is step two. In Koach, every practice has a plan attached, built from your own drill library — filtered by category (attack, defense, serving, blocking) and per coach. Your whole practice night sits on one screen: who is there, and what you are going to do.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I track practice attendance?

It is the fairest way to back up decisions about playing time and starting spots, and you spot early signals — like a player slowly drifting away — before it becomes a problem.

What is the difference between tracking attendance and tracking effort?

Attendance tells you whether someone was there; effort tells you what that presence was worth. A quick effort score per practice makes the difference visible between "present" and "present and sharp".

How much time does it take per practice?

A minute at most. One tap per player for attendance, optionally a star rating for effort. Percentages and season overviews are kept up to date automatically.
