Planning a practice in three steps
Planning practices should not be an evening-long chore. With a fixed three-step routine your session is ready in five minutes — and your team knows what is coming.
Step 1: the logistics (30 seconds)
Date, time, location. In Koach you create a new practice via Practice → New practice and set recurring sessions to repeat — every Thursday at 8pm then really means every Thursday, without manual work. The practice automatically appears in the team calendar.
Step 2: the focus (2 minutes)
The most important question of the entire plan: what needs to get better on Thursday? Choose one focus — serve pressure, pass-and-attack, block timing — and write it in the focus field. That single sentence steers your drill selection and tells players who open the practice what is expected of them.
Step 3: the programme (3 minutes)
Fill the practice with blocks from your drill library: warm-up, two or three drills around the focus, a closing game-play block. Because your drills are already stored with a category and description, the programme is a matter of selecting — see building your session with practice blocks.
Plan in three-week blocks: the same focus for two to three consecutive practices gives players the repetition they need to truly learn something. Something new every week feels varied, but it does not stick.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should I plan practices?
Lock in the logistics (dates, times) for the whole season, but fill in the content no more than two or three weeks ahead — you want it to respond to what the matches are showing.
Should I share the programme with players in advance?
The focus, yes; the complete programme is not necessary. 'Thursday: serve pressure' sets a tone; a full timetable in advance invites people to skip their least favourite block.
What if the gym or opponent changes at the last minute?
Update the practice in the app; everyone looks at the same calendar, so one change is enough. That is exactly the difference with a schedule buried in the group chat.
