CourtsideView alternative: match day or the whole season
Short answer: CourtsideView is an app for match day — scoring, rotation, per-player statistics and a shareable link that lets the people at home follow along live. Koach is an app for the whole season: practices, attendance, lineups, development and the match. If what you really want is 'family should not miss the game', CourtsideView is probably enough. If you want tooling for the coaching between matches, it will not get you there.

What CourtsideView is (and what it costs)
CourtsideView is an English-language volleyball app aimed entirely at the match: scoring from your phone or tablet, roster and rotation alongside it, statistics per player (kills, digs, blocks, aces, errors) and a large scoreboard view for the sideline. See the official product page at courtsideviewapp.com. The app runs on iPhone, iPad and Android; spectators need no app at all — they watch in a browser.
On price we have to be straight with you: in the App Store, CourtsideView is listed as free, with no in-app purchases announced. Its own website carries no price and no pricing page whatsoever. So nothing has been promised about what it will cost later. Koach works with fixed, visible prices: €2.99 a month for Coach (one team, two coaches) and €9.99 a month for Club (unlimited teams and coaches), around 17% cheaper paid yearly, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card.
Both are young apps. The first version of CourtsideView appeared in May 2026 and the version we saw (1.0.3) dates from late June 2026, with only a handful of ratings. Koach has been in the App Store since July 2026. If you want an app with a ten-year history, neither of these is it.
What CourtsideView can do that Koach cannot
This is not a short list, and it is the honest part of this article.
- Watching live from home. With a shareable FanView link, grandparents or an injured player follow the score and the flow of the match in an ordinary browser. Koach has no public live-viewing link.
- Live vision from the sideline. Through a connected browser, someone can optionally broadcast picture and sound alongside that link. Koach deliberately does nothing with video — no broadcast, no analysis.
- Notes on the opposition. CourtsideView has a scout feature for recording observations about opponents. Koach has no opponent scouting.
- No subscription. Right now, you pay nothing. For a parent who works the scoreboard twice a season, that counts for a lot.
Where Koach goes further
The difference lies in everything that is not match day. CourtsideView itself describes no practice planning, attendance, calendar or team communication — and on its own comparison page it does not claim club administration or deep coaching analysis as strengths either. Koach is built for precisely that: planning lineups in 5-1, 4-2 and 6-2 with libero swaps in advance, building practices from 200+ drills, tracking attendance and playing time, player development with goals and badges, a team calendar, announcements, polls, a carpool schedule for away matches and free parent and player accounts. Who CourtsideView is the better choice for
Pick CourtsideView if you recognise yourself in this list:
- You are a parent, scorekeeper or volunteer and you mainly want to keep the match tidily — not run team administration.
- Family cannot be there, and watching from a distance is the real problem you are solving.
- Your team reads English fine, and you are in a club, school or tournament setting.
- You want to pay nothing right now and accept that no promise has been made about later.
Pick Koach if you are the coach and your pain runs wider than Saturday: preparing practices, knowing who is coming, working through lineups and being able to show at the end of the season who actually grew.
The honest conclusion
This is not a comparison where one app wins on everything. CourtsideView does something Koach does not — bringing the match to the people at home, vision included — and right now it costs nothing. Koach does something CourtsideView does not: the nine months between the matches. For some teams the answer is therefore both: someone keeps the FanView link running for the parents, while the coach keeps lineups, attendance and development in Koach. Want to look wider? Ask yourself one question. Is your problem "the people at home are missing the match", or "I lose the overview between matches"? A match-day app solves the first. It does not solve the second — however good that scoreboard looks.
