GameChanger volleyball app: free scoring, but is it enough?
The short answer
The GameChanger volleyball app keeps score and serving stats, streams the match and handles team messages, free for coaches. Rotations, the libero and pass ratings are not covered in its volleyball help, and we found it only in the US App Store. If you need those, Koach fits better.
Searching for the GameChanger volleyball app? You may know it from baseball or softball and want to know whether it can handle your volleyball team too. For scoring, streaming and messaging: yes, and free for coaches. This guide covers what it does, what it costs, where to get it, what you miss and when a volleyball app fits better.
GameChanger volleyball app: what does it do?
GameChanger is an American app for scoring, live streaming and team management across a long list of sports, volleyball among them. We make Koach, an app built only for volleyball. So read this as a comparison written by another maker: below are only facts that GameChanger itself publishes in the App Store, in its help center and on its own website, checked in October 2026, and we also say where GameChanger is strong.
- Scoring and serving stats. According to the help article on basic volleyball scorekeeping, you choose while scoring which team serves first, who is serving and what the serve produced. A separate help article explains how to substitute a server. If you track the serve that way, you get serving stats per player and for the team, according to GameChanger itself: attempts, aces, errors and an automatically calculated ace percentage.
- Live streaming. According to the App Store listing, you stream a match live for free in Full HD (1080p), with the scoreboard on screen for viewers.
- Team management. Messaging, a schedule, RSVPs and photo sharing; according to the App Store listing, free for everyone.
That is a strong package for a team whose family wants to watch from home. A stream with the score on screen, serving stats per player and a message that the bus leaves later: GameChanger does that well, and it costs the coach nothing.
One thing first: in the App Store we found GameChanger only in the US store, not in the UK store or in the Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian or Polish ones, and the listing names English as its only language (checked in October 2026). If you coach in the UK or elsewhere in Europe with an App Store account from there, you will probably not find it. We did not check whether the Android version can be downloaded outside the United States.
Is GameChanger free? Free for coaches, paid for fans
The App Store listing is clear about it: the premium features stay completely free for coaches and team staff, and fans need a paid subscription. Among the premium features, GameChanger lists video highlights, a video archive and stats across a player's whole career.
So the people who do pay are parents and fans. In the US App Store, Plus costs $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year, and Premium $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year (checked in October 2026). The coach pays nothing: the business model sits in the bleachers.
What does a volleyball coach miss in GameChanger?
Scoring serve by serve is not the same as coaching a volleyball match. The questions you have on the sideline are about your rotations. Who is in the front row? In which rotation are we leaking points? How well is the pass reaching the setter? GameChanger's volleyball help, with articles on scorekeeping, substituting servers and adding players and a page on serving stats, is about the serve and the score. We found nothing there about rotations, the libero or pass ratings, not even when we searched GameChanger's sites for 'libero' (checked in October 2026). That does not prove it is nowhere in the app, but you will not find it explained.
What a volleyball coach still needs next to a free scoring app:
- Rotations and serve order. Your lineup in a 5-1, 4-2 or 6-2, and who stands where in each rotation.
- The libero. Who comes in for the middle blocker in the back row, and when the libero has to come out.
- Serve receive and side-out. A rating for every pass, and per rotation how many rallies you win on the opponent's serve.
- Practice and attendance. Who was at practice, what you did and how it went.
14 days free, no credit card. Enter your lineup, score one match and then see in which rotation you leave the most points on the table.
Try Koach with your volleyball teamHow Koach tracks a volleyball match
Koach is built only for volleyball. On the Team tab you place your six players, choose a 5-1, 4-2 or 6-2 and pick your setter and libero. With View all 6 rotations you see beforehand where everyone stands in each rotation; how that works is explained in the volleyball rotation app.
On match day you score point by point. When your team wins a point, the app asks Who scored the point?; you tap the player and choose how: attack, block, serve or an opponent error. When the opponent wins the point, you pick what went wrong. When the opponent serves, you rate the pass from 0 to 3, from aced to perfect to the setter; more on that in tracking pass ratings per player. The serve order rotates along, the app counts your substitutions and time-outs, and with Swap libero automatically the libero comes in for the middle blocker in the back row and goes out as soon as that player rotates to the front or to serve.
Would you rather coach than keep score? Then choose Authorize a player to keep score. A player with their own account then keeps the score and the stats on their own phone, for example someone who is injured and on the bench that day.
After the match the numbers are ready: points per type, the fault distribution, reception per player and Side-out per rotation. That last one shows, for each rotation, how many rallies you win on the opponent's serve, as a count and as a percentage. You see at a glance in which rotation your team gets stuck, and that is exactly what you work on at the next practice.
Practice and attendance in the same volleyball app
GameChanger handles the schedule and RSVPs. Koach does that too, and keeps going where the match ends. On the Training tab you build a practice plan in blocks, choose from 200 animated drills and tap who was there: present, late or absent, or everyone at once with All present. After practice you give each player stars for things like technique and effort, so over the season you see who is improving. How that works in practice is covered in the volleyball practice app.
What Koach does not do
On a few points GameChanger is the better choice, and we would rather tell you here than have you find out after the trial.
- No streaming. Koach does not stream and does not make videos. If you want the family at home to see the match, you need another app for that.
- No live following. The live screen is for the coaches and the player keeping score; parents and players do not follow the score live on their own phones. After the match you can share the match report as an image, or copy the written match report for your group chat.
- No chat. Koach has announcements, polls and tasks, with push notifications in the app, but no chat or direct messages.
- Not free for coaches. After 14 days you pay for a plan. Players and parents use Koach for free.

GameChanger or TeamSnap?
If you search for GameChanger, you will also come across the comparison with TeamSnap. According to its App Store listing, TeamSnap is about scheduling: a calendar, availability, team selection and messaging, with paid versions without ads (checked in October 2026). GameChanger also handles the schedule and messaging, and adds scoring and streaming, free for coaches. The two apps side by side, and what that means for a volleyball team, are in GameChanger vs TeamSnap for your volleyball team.
Who is GameChanger for, and who is Koach for?
GameChanger fits if:
- you want parents and fans to watch and follow the match live;
- a score and serving stats are enough for you, at no cost;
- your club or school already uses GameChanger and you want your team in the same place;
- your team plays in the United States, where the app is in the App Store.
Koach fits if:
- you think in rotations and want to see in which rotation you lose points;
- you no longer want to track the libero and your substitutions on paper;
- you want practice, attendance and matches in one app, with numbers per player across the whole season;
- your team needs an app in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian or Polish.
Having two apps keep score at the same time is double work on the bench. So pick the app that fits what you want to know after the match: the score and a stream, or where your team gets stuck in the rotation. More apps side by side are in the comparison of volleyball apps, and how to test an app on your own team is in the checklist for choosing a volleyball app.
Why pay when GameChanger is free?
Because you are paying for something else. GameChanger is free for coaches and charges fans; Koach charges the coach and is free for players and parents. You can try Koach free for 14 days, with no credit card and with every feature. After that you choose Coach for €2.99 per month (one team, two coaches) or Club for €9.99 per month (unlimited teams and coaches). With a yearly plan you pay €2.49 or €8.33 per month. In the App Store and on Google Play you pay the store price in your own currency. All amounts are on the pricing page.
If you only want your rotations on paper, the rotation generator is free and needs no account. And what you can get for free in stats is covered in the free volleyball stats app guide.
Ask yourself one question after your next match. Do you know in which rotation you lost the most rallies on the opponent's serve? If you can answer that without thinking, a free scoring app may be enough. If not, that is exactly what a volleyball app shows you.

Parents and fans need a paid subscription for extras such as video highlights and a video archive: in the US App Store, Plus costs $9.99 a month and Premium $14.99 a month, and less with a yearly plan. What volleyball stats does GameChanger track?
According to GameChanger itself, if you track the serve while scoring, you get serving stats per player and for the team: attempts, aces, errors and an automatically calculated ace percentage. Koach tracks who scored each point and how, rates every pass from 0 to 3 and shows side-out per rotation.
Can I live stream a volleyball match with Koach?
No. Koach does not stream and does not make videos, and parents do not follow the score live on their own phones. After the match you share the match report as an image or paste the written match report into your group chat. If a stream for the family matters to you, you need a different app for that; in the United States, GameChanger is a strong choice for it.
