GameChanger vs TeamSnap: which app fits a volleyball team?
The short answer
GameChanger is strong at scoring and live streaming, and it costs the coach nothing. TeamSnap is strong at scheduling and chat, free at its core, with availability tracking in a paid plan. Neither mentions rotations or the libero in the App Store. If you want those, plus practice planning and attendance, a volleyball app like Koach is the better fit.
GameChanger vs TeamSnap: which app should your volleyball team use? You are really comparing two kinds of apps, a game day app and a planner. Here is what each one does well, what they cost, what a volleyball coach misses in both, and when an app built only for volleyball is the better fit.
What is the difference between GameChanger and TeamSnap?
We make Koach, an app built only for volleyball, so read this as a comparison written by a different app maker. Everything we say about GameChanger and TeamSnap comes from their own listings on the App Store (GameChanger, TeamSnap) and Google Play, checked in October 2026. We also point out where they are stronger than we are.
The difference in one sentence: GameChanger is about the match, TeamSnap is about the week around it. Both are multi-sport apps, both say in their own words that they focus mainly on youth sports, both are free to download and both list volleyball as one of their sports. On Google Play each one shows 5 million+ downloads, with ads and in-app purchases.
GameChanger: the match, also for everyone at home
According to its App Store listing, GameChanger is built to score, live stream and rewatch games. You stream for free in Full HD with the score on screen, and when you stream and score at the same time, the app automatically cuts short clips of every point your team wins. It also includes messaging, a schedule, RSVPs and photo sharing, free for everyone. The premium features, such as highlights and a video archive, are free for coaches and team staff; fans pay for a subscription.
Two caveats for a volleyball team. The listing mentions newspaper-style recaps of a scored game only for baseball, softball and basketball, and the same goes for the offensive and defensive insights the coach gets after each game. And we found GameChanger only in the US App Store: not in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy or Poland (checked in October 2026; we did not check Google Play country by country). If you coach in the US, it is in your store. What GameChanger actually does for volleyball is covered in our guide to the GameChanger volleyball app.
TeamSnap: the schedule, all season long
In the App Store, TeamSnap names its core as scheduling, availability, roster and chat. You manage your roster, chat with the team and the calendar syncs on its own. According to the same listing, availability tracking sits in a paid plan (see the prices below). During a game the app sends live updates. The listing says more than 25 million people in 196 countries use it, and it is also in the European App Stores we checked. With the paid TeamSnap+ you get unlimited access to drills and practice plans; the partners the listing names come from soccer, lacrosse, baseball and basketball. GameChanger vs TeamSnap: which questions decide it?
Because the two apps are so different, you don't choose on the feature list but on what your team needs. Four questions make the difference:
- Who needs to watch? If the family at home wants to see the match, a stream matters most. That is GameChanger territory.
- Where does most of your work go? If your time goes into who is coming on Saturday and when practice is, you are looking for a planner like TeamSnap.
- What do you want to know after the match? The score and who scored, or which rotation is giving away points? For the second one you need an app that knows volleyball.
- Where do you coach, and in which language? We found GameChanger only in the US App Store. According to the App Store, GameChanger is available in English only, TeamSnap in English, French and Spanish.
What neither one does for a volleyball coach
GameChanger lists twenty sports, TeamSnap hundreds. That is their strength, and for a volleyball coach it is also the limit. Neither listing mentions rotations, a setter, the libero or a pass rating. GameChanger mentions lineup suggestions based on performance and TeamSnap lets you build a lineup, but neither says that lineup rotates when your team sides out. And that is exactly what you are dealing with in the third set: who is in the front row now, when does the libero have to come off, and in which rotation does your team get stuck?
14 days free, no credit card. Put your six players on the court, check your rotations and score one match. Then you know whether you need a volleyball app or whether a planner is enough.
Try Koach with your volleyball teamScheduling and match day in one volleyball app
Koach combines the schedule and the match, but only for volleyball. The scheduling side lives on the Schedule tab. With Schedule recurring trainings you put every practice on a fixed day in one go, and with Sync calendar you and your team subscribe your phone calendars to every practice and match. Players respond with I'm coming or Can't make it, for a match also with I'm coming to watch, and for every practice at once with Sign up for all sessions. For team messages there are announcements, polls and tasks, with push notifications in the app for iPhone and Android.
The match side starts with your lineup. On the Team tab you pick a 5-1, 4-2 or 6-2, assign your setter and libero, and with View all 6 rotations you see where everyone stands in each rotation. On match day you tap Who scored the point? and how, rally by rally. When the opponent serves, you rate the pass from 0 to 3. The serving order rotates along, and with Swap libero automatically the libero comes in for the middle in the back row on its own. After the match you see, among other things, passing per player and Side-out per rotation: how many rallies you win in each rotation on the opponent's serve.
And then there is practice. On the Training tab you build a session in blocks from 200 animated drills, and afterwards you mark each player Present, Late or Absent.

What Koach does not do
On a few points GameChanger or TeamSnap is the better choice, and we would rather tell you here than have you find out after the trial.
- No stream. Koach does not stream and does not record video. If you want the family at home to watch along, read how to livestream a volleyball match with your phone.
- No live following. The live screen is for the coaches and the player you allow to keep score. Parents do not follow the score live on their own phones; after the match you can share the match report as an image.
- No chat. Koach has announcements, polls and tasks, but no chat or direct messages.
- No other sports. If you also coach a soccer or basketball team, an app for every sport has the advantage of keeping everything in one place.
- Not free for the coach. After 14 days you choose a plan. Players and parents do use Koach for free.
Which app fits your volleyball team?
GameChanger fits if the app is in your App Store (of the countries we checked, only the US one), the family wants to watch matches live and a score with clips is enough for you. For the coach it costs nothing.
TeamSnap fits if you mainly want a planner with chat, your club wants several sports in one app and English, French or Spanish works for your team.
Koach fits if you think in rotations, you are done tracking the libero and your subs on paper, and you want practice, attendance and the match in one app, in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian or Polish.
You can also run a planner and a volleyball app side by side. If you do, split the jobs clearly: messages in one app, the match in the other, and never keep score in two apps at the same time. More apps are lined up in our overview of sports team apps for volleyball, and how to test an app on your own team is explained in the checklist for the best volleyball app.
How much do GameChanger, TeamSnap and Koach cost?
GameChanger is free for coaches and team staff according to the App Store, premium features included. Fans pay: in the US App Store, Plus costs $9.99 per month or $39.99 per year, and Premium $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
TeamSnap is free for the core, such as team chat and scheduling, according to the listing. For the paid Premium and Ultra plans the listing names availability, player stats and shared media, among other things, with a free trial. What Premium and Ultra cost is not in the listing; the in-app purchases, such as TeamSnap+ and a version without ads, range from $1.99 to $59.99 in the US App Store.
Koach you can try free for 14 days, with no credit card and every feature. After that you choose Coach for €2.99 per month (one team, two coaches) or Club for €9.99 per month (unlimited teams and coaches). With a yearly plan you pay €2.49 or €8.33 per month. In the App Store and on Google Play you see the price in your own currency. Players and parents pay nothing. All prices are on the pricing page.
Choose by your busiest moment. Which question did you get or ask most often last week: "Who's coming on Saturday?" or "Why did we lose that set?" If it was the first, a planner helps. If it was the second, you need an app that knows your rotations.

Frequently asked questions
Is GameChanger or TeamSnap free?
Both are partly free. According to the App Store, GameChanger is free for coaches and team staff, premium features included; fans pay for Plus in the US App Store at $9.99 per month or $39.99 per year. TeamSnap is free for the core, such as team chat and scheduling, and has paid plans with availability, player stats and shared media, among other things. Checked in October 2026; prices can change. You can try Koach free for 14 days, after that the coach pays for a plan.
Can parents watch the game live on GameChanger or TeamSnap?
Yes, in two different ways. With GameChanger you stream the match for free in Full HD with the score on screen, and viewers follow it point by point; keep in mind we only found the app in the US App Store. TeamSnap mentions live updates during the game for teammates, family and fans, but no stream. That is what their App Store listings say, checked in October 2026. Koach does not do this: the live screen is for the coaches and the player who keeps score, and after the match you share the match report as an image.
Does TeamSnap track volleyball stats?
In the App Store, TeamSnap mentions player stats in the Premium and Ultra plans and live updates during a game. Volleyball numbers such as passing per player, rotations or side-out per rotation are not in the listing (checked in October 2026). Koach records who scored each point and how, rates every pass from 0 to 3 and shows side-out per rotation.
Can you use GameChanger and TeamSnap together?
You can, but both apps have a schedule and messaging, so you end up doing part of the work twice. If you use two apps, split them clearly: one for messages and scheduling, the other for the match. Never let two apps keep score at the same time, because then someone on the bench is tracking two scores at once.
How much does Koach cost after the free trial?
After the 14-day free trial you choose Coach at €2.99 per month (one team, two coaches) or Club at €9.99 per month (unlimited teams and coaches); with a yearly plan that is €2.49 or €8.33 per month. So unlike GameChanger, you do pay as a coach, and unlike TeamSnap, Koach has no free basic version. On the other hand, the trial ends on its own, you can cancel a monthly plan month to month, with no notice period, and players and parents pay nothing.
