Volleyball scouting app: six scouting apps and Koach compared
The short answer
A volleyball scouting app records each action in a match: who played the ball, what they did and how well, and turns that into numbers. For pure scouting there are apps such as Volleyball Scout and NS Volley Scout PRO. Koach scouts more simply, per rally, but in the same app as your lineup, practices and players.
Looking for a volleyball scouting app? Most of what you find logs every action in a match, and five of the six apps below come from Italy. For each app you get platform, price and source, plus what such an app should do, who the statistician is, and where Koach works differently.
What does a volleyball scouting app do?
In Italy live match statistics are simply called scout, in Germany Scouting: during the match you record, action by action, who played the ball, what they did and how well it went. In the US and the UK you will more often hear stats. A volleyball scouting app does this faster than paper and turns it into numbers right away. So this page is not about watching your next opponent.
A scouting app worth using can do at least this:
- A code per action. Player, skill (serve, serve receive, attack, block, dig) and a rating. That is how it works on paper too: see writing a rally on a single line.
- Passing per player. A rating for every serve received, often on a scale of 0 to 3; see tracking reception quality.
- Rotations. The app knows which rotation a rally started in, so you see where your points leak away.
- Fast input. There are only a few seconds between two rallies.
- A report afterwards. Per player and per set, to go over with your team.
14 days free, no credit card. Scout your next match in Koach, then check your passing and your side-out per rotation.
Try Koach at your next matchThe volleyball statistician: who keeps the stats?
At Italian clubs the person who keeps the scout is called the scoutman. On an ordinary club or school team, that can be an assistant or an injured player. Hardly anyone manages to code every action and coach at the same time: if you are tapping, you are not watching the court.
Three things make the difference for a statistician:
- One person, one device. Two people tracking the same match soon end up with numbers that don't match.
- A fixed spot with a view of the whole court, ideally a little higher than the bench.
- Fewer codes than you think. Try to log everything and you lose the thread. Start with serve receive and with how the rally ended.
In Koach you hand off that job with Authorize a player to keep score. You choose a member with a linked account, and they keep score and stats for that match on their own phone. You coach, and the numbers end up in your match.

WeScout: free scouting, of one team or both
WeScout from the Italian company TieBreakTech Srl has been in the App Store since 2016 and, in its description, calls itself an app for scouting a volleyball match. It is free, runs on iPhone and iPad, and the App Store lists English as its language. It is free on Google Play too, with at least 500 downloads and an update from August 2026. According to the description there, you record all the basic skills, including attack and serve trajectories, and scout one team or both. Strong if you also want to log the opponent action by action: Koach does not do that.
Quick Scout Volley: one tap per action on the iPad
Quick Scout Volley from Dot Next srl has been in the App Store since 2015. According to its description, you rate players in real time with one tap, for all the fundamentals, with styles and trajectories. In the US App Store it costs $14.99 and runs on the iPad, in English and Italian; the latest update is from October 2025. It is also on Google Play, with a latest update from May 2024. Strong if you want to rate every action on a tablet.
NS Volley Scout PRO: scouting matches and practices
NS Volley Scout PRO by Nicola Salvaro has been in the App Store since 2018. According to its description, you use it to scout matches and practices, with analysis and sharing; reading shared stats is free, and anyone who scouts gets a one-week trial. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android, and the App Store lists six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
The sources do not agree on the price. The App Store shows it as free, but the list of in-app purchases in the Italian App Store names two monthly subscriptions (€2.99 and €11.99), two yearly subscriptions (€29.99 and €99.99), plus upgrades and a pack of ten tokens, each at €9.99. Which subscription goes with which feature is not stated. On Google Play it has at least 10,000 downloads and an update from June 2026. Strong if you also want to scout in practice.
Volleyball Scout: start free, beach included
Volleyball Scout by Francesco Rasi (published on Google Play as Tortiolaware) has been in the App Store since 2021. According to the website, the basic plan is free: the mobile app with unlimited matches, teams and actions, plus basic stats. Premium costs €29.99 per year there, Premium + Video €16.99 per month on a yearly plan, and there is a desktop app, Volleyball Scout Video, for Windows and macOS. You scout indoor volleyball with rotations, and beach volleyball with a simpler screen.
The Italian App Store lists twelve languages, including English and Spanish, and shows Premium as a €39.99 purchase; that differs from the €29.99 per year on the website. On Google Play it has at least 100,000 downloads and contains ads. According to its own website, more than 100,000 coaches use the app. Strong if you want to start for free or also play beach.
Pointly: scouting with live sharing
Pointly from Serplay srl has been in the App Store since 2017. According to its Google Play description, you scout and share it in real time with other devices, social media and the web; extra features sit in a web portal. In the App Store it is free, for iPhone and iPad, in English and Italian. On Google Play it has at least 5,000 downloads and an update from October 2025. Strong if others need to follow along live: Koach does not do that.
TapScout: new, for school and club teams
TapScout: Volleyball Stats by Hiroshi Miyawaki has been in the App Store since June 2026. According to its description, it is a scouting and analysis app for middle school, high school and club teams, built by an analyst with at least 13 years of experience. It is free, runs on iPhone and iPad, and is available in English, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Strong if you want a free app built around school and club teams.
Where Koach differs from a scouting app
Koach is not a full scouting app. A scouting app codes every touch; Koach records how each rally ended. When your team wins the rally, you tap the player at Who scored the point? and choose Attack, Block or Serve / Ace; an opponent error has its own button. When the opponent wins the rally, you choose who made the error (or Unknown / unassigned) and the type of error at What went wrong?, or you tap Good ball by opponent. When the opponent serves, you give the Reception a rating from 0 to 3. From that, the app works out the rest:
- Side-out per rotation: for each rotation, the rallies won on the opponent's serve.
- Setting distribution and Assists for your setter: who scores off their sets, counted automatically.
- The average reception of the team and per player, for every match.
- Time-out: the numbers Since the previous time-out, such as the weakest rotation.
The biggest difference is not in the scouting itself but in what surrounds it. You scout in the same app that holds your lineup, your practices and your attendance, and the points from each match go into every player's profile, so you can follow them across the season. If the signal drops in the gym, the app shows Offline mode and keeps your changes on the device until you are back online. Could not scout live? Then use Enter stats afterwards. How live tracking works step by step is explained in keeping volleyball stats with an app.
What Koach does not do:
- No stats per player for the opposing team.
- No video, no heat maps and no attack directions.
- No hitting percentage: Koach counts attack points and attack errors, not attempts.
- No beach volleyball: indoor volleyball with six players only.
- Players and parents cannot follow along live: the live screen is only for coaches and the authorized scorer. Afterwards you share the match as an image with Share match report.
Which volleyball scouting app fits you?
- You have a dedicated statistician and want to code every action. Pick a true scouting app, such as Volleyball Scout, NS Volley Scout PRO or Quick Scout Volley. If you are torn between that depth and an app for your whole team, read the iStatVball alternative.
- You want to scout the opposing players too. According to its description, WeScout scouts one team or both; Koach only records the type of error for the opponent.
- You also play beach. Volleyball Scout has its own screen for it; Koach does not.
- Parents and fans need to follow along live. According to its description, Pointly shares live to other devices and the web.
- An analyst sits next to you and you want to go beyond the phone. Then read the VolleyStation alternative for the everyday coach.
- You do everything yourself and want to know who scores, how your passing holds up and in which rotation you leak points, in the same app as your lineup and practices. Then Koach fits. What else to look for is in the checklist for choosing a coaching app.
- You do not want to spend anything yet. Read what you get with a free volleyball statistics app, or start with a scouting sheet on paper.
What does Koach cost next to a scouting app?
You can try Koach free for 14 days, with no credit card and every feature. After that you choose Coach for €2.99 per month (one team, two coaches) or Club for €9.99 per month (unlimited teams and coaches). With a yearly plan you pay €2.49 or €8.33 per month. In the App Store and on Google Play you see the price in your own currency. Players use the app for free with their own account, including the player you authorize to keep score. The prices are on the pricing page.
Scout a scrimmage first. With Start a friendly match you try out the input when nothing is at stake. If your statistician keeps up there, they will keep up in league play too.

Frequently asked questions
What is a volleyball scouting app?
A volleyball scouting app is an app in which a statistician records, action by action during the match, who played the ball, which skill it was and how well it went. The app turns that into numbers per player, per skill and per rotation. In Italy live match statistics are simply called scout, in Germany Scouting; in the US and the UK you will more often hear stats. It has little to do with watching your next opponent.
Is there a free volleyball scouting app?
Yes. According to its own website, the basic plan of Volleyball Scout is free, and WeScout, Pointly and TapScout are listed as free in the App Store (checked in October 2026). NS Volley Scout PRO is free for reading shared stats, with a one-week trial for anyone who scouts. You can try Koach free for 14 days with no credit card; after that, Coach costs €2.99 per month.
What does a volleyball statistician do?
The statistician, called the scoutman in Italy, keeps the stats during the match so the coach can coach. They sit in a fixed spot with a view of the whole court, log every action or every rally, and have the numbers ready for the time-out and after the match. On an ordinary club or school team, that can be an assistant or an injured player.
Can I scout the opposing team with Koach?
Not per player. For the opponent, Koach only records which type of error was made, or that the point was a good ball by the opponent. Stats per player for the other team, heat maps and attack directions are not included. If you want to study your next opponent in advance, use a fixed watch list; how that works is explained in scouting the opponent.
Is there a volleyball scouting app for Android?
Yes, most of them. WeScout, NS Volley Scout PRO, Volleyball Scout, Pointly and Quick Scout Volley are also on Google Play. In October 2026 we only found TapScout in the App Store, for iPhone and iPad. Koach runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and in the browser, with one account across all those devices.
