A VolleyStation alternative for the everyday coach

Short answer: VolleyStation is analysis software for teams with an analyst on staff — coding every single action, tied to video, on a Windows, Mac or Linux machine. Koach is a coach app for your whole season on your phone: lineups, practices, attendance, live scoring and development. If someone sits next to you scouting and you want to review footage action by action, VolleyStation wins. If you are on your own with a club or youth team, that tooling is heavier than your problem.

What VolleyStation is

VolleyStation is a Polish volleyball technology company that works with the FIVB, Volleyball World, national teams and American colleges, among others; in the Polish PlusLiga it is the standard. Its main product, VolleyStation Pro, is desktop software for Windows, macOS and Linux with which you code every action in a match: serve, pass, set, attack, block. Out of that come reports per player and per rotation, with attack directions and heat maps, and the coded actions are linked to video footage — including exporting video montages. There is also a bench mode that pushes live data to tablets on the same network, plus a separate free app, VolleyStation Score, for the digital scoresheet at tournaments.

What VolleyStation does and Koach does not

This is not a short list, and that is precisely the point:

• Video analysis. Syncing footage with the coded actions and reviewing action by action. Koach deliberately does nothing with video.
• Scouting at action level. Coding an opponent fully and pulling reports out of it. In Koach you keep notes on opponents and scout the old-fashioned way — useful, but a different order of magnitude.
• Depth of analysis. Heat maps, attack directions, breakdowns per rotation, your own formulas in spreadsheets.
• Several analysts at once. Two people coding the same match ("dual coding").
• Beach and snow volleyball alongside the indoor game.
• Tournament infrastructure. The digital scoresheet with PDF, tied to tournament scheduling — meant for organisers, not for a single coach.

What it costs (and what we could not establish)

Honestly: VolleyStation Pro publishes no price anywhere. Not on the website, not in the manual. In Poland it is sold through the volleyball federation, which states that the price depends on the competition level and that a licence is valid for twelve months per key; you order by email. For the rest of Europe we found no price list — you have to get in touch. There is a demo version with all features after you register, so you can try it out. The standalone VolleyStation Score app is free in the App Store and on Google Play.

Koach sits at the other end of that spectrum: €2.99 a month for Coach (1 team, 2 coaches) or €9.99 a month for Club (unlimited teams and coaches), around 17% cheaper paid yearly, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card. That is not a verdict on quality — these are two products for two different budgets and two different audiences.

Where Koach sits on the other half

VolleyStation touches the match. Not the season around it: no practice planning, no drill library, no attendance, no team calendar, no announcements or polls, no carpool schedule for away matches, no parent accounts. That is not a shortcoming — it is a different product category. But it does mean a club coach who buys VolleyStation still needs something for the other nine months.

The second practical hurdle: coding takes people. You do not code a full match while you are coaching it. Koach is deliberately designed for the coach who is on their own — or who hands the scoring to a sub — and otherwise fills in the numbers afterwards. You get less depth than VolleyStation, but you get numbers that actually materialise.

Who is VolleyStation the better choice for?

• You coach at national top-division or international level, or in a programme where analysis is part of the curriculum.
• There is an analyst, an intern or a dedicated stat keeper available — someone who does not also have to coach.
• You want to review footage per action and build video montages for the team meeting.
• You play in a league (such as the Polish one) where the software is prescribed.
• You organise tournaments and want to be rid of the paper scoresheet.

Pick Koach if you coach one or a few teams at a club, if most of your time goes into planning, attendance and working out lineups, and if on Saturday points per player and growth across the season are enough for you.

The honest conclusion

These are not competitors fighting over the same coach. VolleyStation is thirteen years old, sits on the FIVB bench and does things Koach does not do and is not going to do. Koach is young — in the App Store since July 2026 — and does the broad season work VolleyStation never sets out to touch. If you are hesitating, that is usually a sign your question is not "which analysis software" but "how do I keep an overview of my team".
