iStatVball alternative: deep stats or your whole team?

Short answer: iStatVball is not a team app but a statistics app, and that difference decides the choice for you. Want shot charts, heat maps and stats synced to video? Then iStatVball is stronger than Koach — full stop. Want one app for practices, attendance, lineups, the calendar and straightforward match numbers? Then iStatVball was never built for that.

What iStatVball actually is

iStatVball, made by DemiVision, has been around since roughly 2010; the current generation, iStatVball 3, arrived in August 2020 and is still being updated (version 3.21.6 on iOS at the time of writing). There are two entry interfaces: the newer RallyFlow, where you tap on a picture of the court, and the classic iStatVball 2 interface for coaches used to it. The app runs on iPad (where it comes into its own), iPhone, Macs with Apple silicon and Android. There is no real web version, and the interface is in English.

Where iStatVball beats Koach

Let us be straight: on statistics, iStatVball wins. Concretely, it does a number of things Koach cannot do and is not going to do:

• Spatial analysis. Shot charts, heat maps and trend graphs show you where a ball lands, not just that the point was won. Koach records point types per player, not court positions.
• Video. Statistics synced to recorded or live footage, so you can review action by action. Koach has deliberately no video analysis.
• Scouting opponents per rotation. The same numbers and graphs for the opposition, broken down by rotation. Koach handles scouting at note level, not at video level.
• Export and hand-off. PDFs of any table or graph, Excel export, and direct upload to MaxPreps and Bound — American league systems that play no role in Europe.
• Multi-year career statistics that carry across seasons.

What iStatVball deliberately does not do

iStatVball is a measuring instrument, not team management. There is no practice planning in it, no drill library, no attendance, no team calendar, no announcements and no parent accounts. The maker sells a separate app for practice statistics alongside it, but organising your team stays out of the picture entirely. Building lineups in 5-1, 4-2 or 6-2 is not a goal in itself either; rotations mostly exist there to assign the numbers to the right player.

Price: bought once per season versus a subscription

iStatVball has no rolling subscription but so-called Team-Seasons, priced in US dollars: $39.99 for 1 team-season, $69.99 for 2, $89.99 for 3 and $99.99 for 4. You buy them once inside the app; nothing renews automatically, and once a team-season is bought, players, statisticians and coaches can join in for free. There is a 14-day free trial. No euro price is published, so what you pay outside the US depends on the exchange rate and the store price Apple or Google applies.

Koach costs €2.99 a month for one team with two coaches, or €9.99 a month for unlimited teams and coaches at club level; paying yearly saves you around 17%. Who iStatVball is the better choice for

Pick iStatVball if you coach a select or performance team where someone sits on the sideline doing nothing but entering statistics. The app is made for programmes that invest time in analysis: you need a dedicated statistician to keep up during the rallies, and the payoff comes from reviewing it all afterwards. If that is your level, if you want video alongside it, or if you play in a league that exports to MaxPreps or Bound, Koach is frankly too light and iStatVball is the right tool. And if you object to subscriptions on principle, the one-off model is a genuine advantage.

Who Koach suits better

Koach is built for the coach who does everything alone: preparing practices, tracking attendance, getting the lineup and rotation right, counting points per player yourself on Saturday and then going through the numbers with the team. If you cannot spare anyone to do nothing but tally, the question is not which app gives the deepest data, but which data you will realistically still enter. Koach aims at exactly that level, comes in six languages, and has an enter-afterwards mode for the matches where it did not work out live.

Being honest about age: iStatVball has been going for over fifteen years, Koach has only been in the App Store since July 2026. That means fewer user reviews and a shorter track record.
