TeamPlus alternative for volleyball: lineups and live scoring
The short answer
A good TeamPlus alternative for volleyball knows rotations, the libero and rally-by-rally live scoring. Koach does all three, plus a schedule, sign-ups and a driving rota, but it has no chat or team treasury. You can try Koach free for 14 days, no credit card needed.
Looking for a TeamPlus alternative because your volleyball team needs more than a calendar and a team treasury? Then the question is not which app does the most, but which app knows volleyball. Here is an honest look at what TeamPlus does well, what it costs, where it stops for volleyball and what Koach does differently.
What should a TeamPlus alternative for volleyball do?
Full disclosure first: we make Koach. So read this comparison as the view of the maker of one of the two apps. We say what TeamPlus does better, and the sources for what we write about TeamPlus are in the text and at the bottom of the page.
TeamPlus, called SpielerPlus in Germany, is built to organise a team in any sport. If you are looking for an alternative because you coach volleyball, these are the questions that matter:
- Does the app know your system? A 5-1, 4-2 or 6-2, with a setter who rotates along and an overview of all six rotations before the match starts.
- Does the app know the libero? A libero comes in for a back-row player without it counting as a regular substitution. If the app does not know that, you keep track of it yourself in every rotation.
- Can you score rally by rally? Not just the final score, but who won the point, how, and how well your team passed the serve.
- Does the organisation stay in one place? Schedule, sign-ups, reminders and rides to away matches. Otherwise you end up with two apps for one team.
- What do you lose? Check beforehand which TeamPlus features you actually use, such as the chat or the team treasury, and whether the new app has them.
14 days free, no credit card. Add your lineup and your schedule, keep TeamPlus running and see after one match what you are missing.
Try Koach with your volleyball teamWhat TeamPlus (SpielerPlus) does well
TeamPlus is the international name of SpielerPlus, an app by SPM Sportplatz Media GmbH in Germany that has been in the App Store since 2014. Google Play lists it as TeamPlus, and spielerplus.de shows that name too. According to its own site, you can organise a team in more than 120 sports with it, volleyball included, and more than 410,000 teams use the app. The description in the German App Store speaks of more than five million satisfied coaches, players, parents, team staff and treasurers, and the App Store lists eleven languages, English included. All checked in October 2026.
The feature list on the site is broad, and strong for everything around the team:
- a team calendar, where players confirm or decline with one tap, with push notifications;
- importing fixture lists from an Excel or CSV file;
- a team chat;
- a team treasury and a penalty catalogue;
- carpools to away matches;
- polls and statistics;
- a tool to create lineups;
- documents and parent accounts.
If you mainly organise, or your club wants several sports in one app, you get a lot for that. Koach has no chat, no team treasury and no penalty catalogue, and it cannot import fixture lists from an Excel or CSV file either.
What does TeamPlus cost, and what does Koach cost?
TeamPlus is free to download. If you want more, you buy Premium in the app: the German App Store lists in-app purchases from €1.49, split into Single-Premium and Team-Premium. The home page of spielerplus.de shows no Premium prices. In Google Play the app is listed as TeamPlus with more than one million downloads and a note that it contains ads. Checked in October 2026; the German store shows euros, so check in your own store and in the app which package your team needs.
Koach has no free version. You try the app free for 14 days, with no credit card and with every feature. After that you choose Coach for €2.99 per month (one team, two coaches) or Club for €9.99 per month (unlimited teams and coaches); with a yearly plan you pay €2.49 or €8.33 per month. Players and parents use Koach for free. All prices are on the pricing page, and in the App Store and Google Play you pay the store price in your own currency. If all you need is your six rotations on paper, the free rotation generator is enough, and it needs no account.
Where TeamPlus stops when you coach volleyball
On its site, TeamPlus lists a feature to create lineups. What we did not find, checked in October 2026: rotations, the libero, and rally-by-rally statistics such as serve-receive quality or side-out per rotation. That is not a criticism. An app for more than 120 sports cannot build in the rules of every sport. For a volleyball coach, though, these are exactly the things that make the difference on match day:
- Rotations. Every time your team wins back the serve, everyone moves one spot. Whether your strongest hitters stand in the front row together only becomes clear when you see all six rotations side by side.
- The libero. The libero comes in for a back-row player, usually the middle blocker, and has to come off as soon as that spot rotates to the front. On paper that means paying attention in every rotation.
- Rally-by-rally stats. A 3-1 result does not tell you in which rotation you left points on the table. For that you have to record, rally by rally, who scored, how, and how good the pass was.
What Koach does for your volleyball team
Lineup with rotations and libero
On the Team tab you open Lineup view. Under Build lineup you pick 5-1, 4-2 or 6-2, tap a player for each position and assign the setter and the libero. With View all 6 rotations you see who stands where in each rotation. How that works step by step is explained in the volleyball lineup app guide.
Live scoring rally by rally
On match day you score point by point. When your team wins the point, you pick the player under Who scored the point? and then how: attack, block or serve. If it was the opponent's mistake, you tap Opponent error. When the point goes to the opponent, you pick the error under What went wrong?, with the player if you like, or you tap Good ball by opponent. When the opponent serves, you rate the reception from 0 to 3, from aced to perfect to the setter. With Swap libero automatically the libero comes in for the middle blocker in the back row and goes out as soon as that player rotates to the front or to serve. The app also counts substitutions and time-outs per set.
After the match: where it went wrong
After the final whistle the numbers are ready: points and errors per player, the average reception, playing time per player in rallies played, the rally-by-rally flow under Momentum and Side-out per rotation: how many rallies you win in each rotation when the opponent serves. That shows you in which rotation your team is worst at winning back the serve. What else the match screen tracks is covered in the volleyball match app. Koach does not calculate a hitting percentage: the app counts attack points and attack errors, not attempts.
Team organisation: what Koach takes over and what it does not
For the organisation, this is what Koach covers:
- Schedule. Practices, matches and other appointments, recurring practices in one go, and with Sync calendar you share a link so that you and your players see everything in your own phone calendar.
- Sign-ups. Players tap I'm coming or Can't make it and can give a reason when they cannot come; for matches there is also I'm coming to watch. Parents sign their child up or out. In the iPhone and Android app they get the reminder the day before as a push notification.
- Announcements. An announcement, a poll, or a task that someone claims by tapping I’ll do it.
- Driving rota. Instead of a carpool list, you put drivers in a driver pool, with their number of seats. The balance is the number of kilometres someone has already driven, and the lowest balance goes first. Tournaments are deliberately left out. How to set it up is explained in the driving rota for away matches.
- Parents. With Invite a parent you link a parent to their child. A Team parent sees who is coming to matches and can create the driving rota.
What Koach does not have: a chat or private messages, a team treasury, a penalty catalogue and a place for documents. Koach does not handle money either. Only with the Club plan does the club keep track of who owes what under Contributions, with its own payment link; the payment itself happens outside Koach. If the team treasury is essential for your team, TeamPlus is the better app for that.

Who TeamPlus suits better, and who Koach suits
Stay with TeamPlus if the chat, the team treasury or the penalty catalogue are essential for your team, if your club wants one app for several sports, or if you want to start for free. TeamPlus has been in the App Store since 2014; Koach has only been there since July 2026.
Choose Koach if you coach volleyball and want your lineup, your rotations, the libero and your match stats in the same app as your schedule and your sign-ups. Koach is built for indoor volleyball only, comes in six languages and runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and in the browser.
Or use both: TeamPlus for the group, Koach for the coaching. Do agree on which app players use to say they cannot come, otherwise it ends up in two places. If you use Spond instead of TeamPlus, read the Spond alternative for volleyball. All team apps side by side are in the overview of sports team apps for volleyball, and what to look for in any volleyball app is in the checklist for the best volleyball app for coaches.
How to cancel TeamPlus Premium and switch to Koach
- Do not cancel anything yet. Use Koach for the 14 trial days alongside TeamPlus, with one real practice and one real match. Only then do you know whether you miss the chat and the team treasury.
- Save your data first. Before you cancel, save the member list, the results and the documents you want to keep. What to export and when it is best to switch is covered in switching team apps mid-season.
- Put your team in Koach. You cannot import a member list: you type in the names (jersey numbers and positions can come later) and with Invite players you send everyone their own link, all links in one message for the group chat.
- Cancel Premium where you bought it. If your Premium runs as a subscription through the App Store, you manage it in the subscriptions of your Apple account (on the iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions). Through Google Play it is in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions. Deleting the app does not stop a subscription. If you paid another way, ask TeamPlus.
Test it with a real match. Score one match during your trial and then look at Side-out per rotation. Once you see the rotation where your team wins back the serve least often, you know what an organisation app cannot tell you.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to TeamPlus?
TeamPlus itself is free to download; Premium is an in-app purchase. Koach has no free version: you try it free for 14 days with every feature and no credit card, and after that Coach costs €2.99 per month for one team. Players and parents use Koach for free. If you only need the six rotations of your lineup on paper, the rotation generator on the Koach website is free and needs no account.
Is TeamPlus good for volleyball?
For organising, yes: volleyball is among the more than 120 sports on spielerplus.de, and the calendar, chat, team treasury and carpools work for any team. You can create lineups too. Rotations, the libero and rally-by-rally stats we did not find, checked in October 2026. If you only organise, TeamPlus is enough; if you also want to coach with rotations and match stats, you need a volleyball app.
Does Koach have a chat or team treasury like TeamPlus?
No. Koach has no chat, no private messages, no team treasury and no penalty catalogue, and it does not handle money. You can send your team an announcement, a poll or a task, and players get push notifications in the iPhone and Android app, such as the reminder the day before a practice or match. If the team treasury is essential, you can keep TeamPlus for that.
Can I use TeamPlus and Koach at the same time?
Yes. You do not need to cancel TeamPlus to try Koach. Do agree on which app players use to sign up and out, otherwise it ends up in two places and neither list is right. A logical split: the chat and the team treasury in TeamPlus, the lineup, live scoring and match stats in Koach.
Can I import my TeamPlus data into Koach?
Not automatically: Koach cannot import a member list and does not take anything over from TeamPlus. You type in your players' names, jersey numbers and positions can come later, and with Invite players you send everyone their own link. Recurring practices on a fixed day go into the schedule in one go. Save whatever you want to keep from TeamPlus before you cancel.
