Balltime alternative: volleyball stats without filming
The short answer
If you want a Balltime alternative because your team doesn't film, you need stats that are created during the match. In Koach you tap who scored and how after every point, see your weakest rotation at the time-out, and players see their own numbers in a free account. Koach doesn't make video or highlights.
You're looking for a Balltime alternative because nobody films your team's matches, or because you don't want a subscription per player. Balltime pulls its stats from video; without video, you need something else. Below you'll find what Balltime does and costs, when it's the better choice, and what Koach tracks with no camera at all.
Checked in October 2026 on Balltime's product page at Hudl, on Balltime's pricing page and in the App Store.
Full disclosure: we make Koach. So read this as a comparison written by the maker of one of the two apps. That's also why it spells out what Balltime does better and who it remains the better choice for.
What Balltime does, and who it's for
Balltime was built by Balltime LTD and is now a Hudl product. Open balltime.com/pricing and you land on Hudl's pricing page, and Hudl's volleyball page lists Balltime alongside its other volleyball products. Hudl positions it as stats for the individual player (checked in October 2026).
It works from video. You upload a volleyball recording, a match for example, and the software tags every ball contact and every player, cuts out the dead time and turns it into highlights. So the work is in the filming and the uploading. In the App Store the app's full name is Balltime AI: the software reviews your footage automatically, which Koach does not do.
According to the App Store, Balltime has been listed since July 2023, runs on iPhone and iPad, and is available in English only. On Google Play, a search for balltime turned up no separate Balltime app, only Hudl's own app. The login menu on hudl.com sends Balltime users to app.balltime.com. Where Balltime shines: nobody has to tap anything during the match, you end up with footage and clips to rewatch or share, and according to the pricing page the Player plan also measures the speed of your serve, attack and set. The Recruiting plan adds recruiting videos and a player profile, aimed at players who want to get noticed in college recruiting.
Why coaches look for a Balltime alternative
An app that gets its stats from video stands or falls with that video. There are four good reasons to look further:
- No video, no stats. If nobody sets up a phone on a tripod at your matches, or the recording never leaves someone's phone, nothing comes out of it.
- The stats come from the upload. Hudl only describes working from a recording you upload and says nothing about stats during the match. For your time-out in the second set, you need something else.
- A subscription built for the individual player. The Player plan costs $20 per month, with 15 hours of video per month. Hudl says the Team plan is meant for youth clubs and organizations, but no price is listed: you fill in a form and request a demo (checked in October 2026).
- No separate app on Google Play. The Balltime app is in the App Store for iPhone and iPad; on Google Play we only found Hudl's app. If you or your players are on Android, check first how you would use it.
What should a Balltime alternative do without a camera?
If your team doesn't film, you're not looking for a second video app but for something that captures the stats while the game is being played. Look for five things:
- Stats per player without video. Who scored, how the point was won and who made the error, logged while the match is on.
- Something you can use at the time-out. Not the evening after the match, but at the moment you can still make adjustments.
- Input you can handle while coaching. A couple of taps per point, or done by someone else on the sideline.
- Stats of their own for every player. Without each player needing a separate subscription.
- A team price you know up front. No quote, no sales call.

Track your stats in KoachWhat Koach tracks without a camera
In Koach you start the match with your lineup. When your team wins a point, you pick one of the six players on court at that moment under Who scored the point?, or Opponent error if the point came from a mistake on the other side. Then, under How was the point scored?, you choose Attack, Block or Serve / Ace. If the point goes to the opponent, you choose Good ball by opponent or the player who made the error, and then the type of error under What went wrong?: Service fault, Attack fault, Bad pass, Too late, Net fault or Other. When the opponent serves, you can rate the reception from 0 to 3. How that works in practice is covered in tracking volleyball stats with an app.
It pays off during the match itself. When you call a time-out, you see what has happened since the start of the set or since the previous time-out: points won and lost, Most faults and Weakest rotation, with the points by type and the error breakdown of the set so far underneath. So you know which rotation is leaking points before your players head back on court.
After the last point, Player performance is ready, with each player's points from attack, block and serve and their number of errors, plus Side-out per rotation and Momentum, the flow of the match rally by rally. If you're coaching and can't keep tapping, use Authorize a player to keep score to hand the scoring to a team member with a linked account, who tracks the match on their own phone. If it didn't happen live, or someone did film after all, use Enter stats afterwards to fill in each player's points and errors after the match or after rewatching it, even days later. That's manual work, but it needs no extra subscription; how it works is explained in entering stats after the match.
Players see their own stats, without their own subscription
With its Player plan, Balltime targets the individual player. In Koach, every player on your team gets a free account of their own. On their dashboard a player sees their points from attack, block and serve under Your performances, their attendance under Your attendance, plus matches won and lost and the next practice and match. They also see their playing time, their badges and the calendar. The coach's notes stay with the coaches. Exactly what a player sees and how to read the numbers is explained in viewing your own volleyball stats as a player.
One thing players and parents should know: Koach is an app for the coach. Your own stats exist because your team tracks its matches in Koach. If you want stats and video of yourself as a player, separate from your team, for a highlight reel for example, Balltime is built for that and Koach isn't.

So they answer different questions. Balltime pulls stats and clips from footage that already exists. Koach captures the stats while you coach, and puts them next to your lineup, your practices and your team's attendance.
When is it worth having software analyze your footage?
Footage that software works through for you is worth it if:
- every match is filmed anyway, by the club or by a parent with a tripod;
- you want to rewatch rallies and show clips in your team meeting, because video shows why something went wrong;
- a player wants footage of themselves to rewatch or share;
- nobody on the sideline has time to enter anything during the match.
It makes less sense if nobody films, if you need the stats at the time-out, or if you want a team price you know up front rather than a price on request. How reliably software pulls stats from video, and where you still have to watch for yourself, is covered in what automated stats from video can do today. You can also use both: Balltime for the footage, Koach for the sideline stats and for running your team. Just keep in mind that means two subscriptions and your stats living in two apps.
Who Koach is for, and who it isn't
Choose Balltime if:
- your matches are already filmed and you want to get more out of that footage;
- you want stats, speeds and highlights of yourself as a player, or of your kid as a parent, separate from what the team uses;
- your club wants the footage of all its players and teams analyzed: that's what the Team plan is for, priced on request.
Choose Koach if:
- you coach a team that doesn't film and you still want stats per player and per rotation;
- you want those stats during the match, at the time-out;
- all your players should be able to see their own stats without paying;
- you want your lineup, practices, calendar and attendance in the same app.
To be clear about what Koach doesn't do: it doesn't record video, you can't upload footage to it and it doesn't produce highlights. You don't track per-player stats for the opponent: you only log whether a point came from their error or from a good ball by them. The app doesn't calculate a hitting percentage, because attack attempts aren't counted. Balltime isn't Hudl's only volleyball product; the rest are covered in the Hudl alternative. Balltime pricing, and what Koach costs
Balltime's pricing page lists three plans (checked in October 2026). Player costs $20 per month, with 15 hours of video per month. Recruiting costs $25 per month, billed annually at $299, with 200 hours of video per year. For Team you request a demo through a form. Player and Recruiting come with a 14-day free trial, no credit card required.
You can try Koach free for 14 days, with every feature and no credit card. After that you choose Coach at €2.99 per month (one team, two coaches) or Club at €9.99 per month (unlimited teams and coaches). On a yearly plan you pay €2.49 or €8.33 per month. In the App Store and on Google Play you see the price in your own currency. Players and parents use the app for free: only the coach or the club pays. All prices are on the pricing page.
Try it without extra help. At your next match, use Authorize a player to keep score to hand the scoring to a player with a linked account who isn't playing, because they're injured, say. Check the weakest rotation at the first time-out: then you'll know whether stats without a camera tell you enough.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Balltime cost?
On Balltime's pricing page at Hudl, the Player plan costs $20 per month, with 15 hours of video per month. Recruiting costs $25 per month, billed annually at $299, and team pricing is on request. Player and Recruiting come with a 14-day free trial, no credit card required (checked in October 2026). Koach also has a 14-day free trial; after that Coach costs €2.99 per month for one team, and players pay nothing.
Is there a Balltime alternative that doesn't need video?
Yes, if you want stats that are created during the match instead of from a recording. In Koach the coach, or a team member they've authorized, taps who scored and how after every point, or what went wrong. At the time-out you see the most faults and the weakest rotation, and after the match the points per player, the side-out per rotation and the momentum. You don't get footage or highlights.
Is Balltime owned by Hudl?
Balltime was built by Balltime LTD and is now a Hudl product: Balltime's pricing page redirects to Hudl's, and Hudl lists Balltime among its own volleyball products (checked in October 2026). Hudl also has other volleyball products, such as Hudl Assist and Volleymetrics. That comparison is in the article on a Hudl alternative.
Can players see their own stats without Balltime?
Yes, if their team tracks its matches in Koach. Every player gets a free account of their own and sees their points from attack, block and serve, their attendance, their playing time and their badges. Players don't see the coach's notes. Without a coach who keeps score, a player has no stats in Koach; if you want footage and stats of yourself, separate from your team, Balltime is the better fit.
Does Balltime work on Android?
The Balltime app is in the App Store for iPhone and iPad. On Google Play, a search for balltime turned up no separate Balltime app, only Hudl's app. The login menu on hudl.com sends Balltime users to app.balltime.com; what you can do there on an Android phone isn't stated on the product or pricing page (checked in October 2026). Koach is in the App Store and on Google Play, and also works in the browser on a laptop or tablet, with the same account on every device.
