Cancelling or switching your Koach subscription in the App Store and Play Store

Taking out a subscription is done in seconds. Stopping it again takes people far longer, because they go looking in the wrong place. Buy Koach on your phone and the cancel button is not in Koach at all — it sits in the store the app came from. This article shows you exactly where to be, and when a change actually takes effect.

Two checkouts, and therefore two places to stop

Koach runs in three places: as an app on your iPhone, as an app on Android, and in the browser on your laptop. Where you take out your subscription decides who holds the bill — and with it, where you end that subscription again. That is not a Koach decision but a store rule: buy something inside an app you downloaded from the App Store or from Google Play, and the purchase has to go through that store's payment system.

On your phone, then, you see no payment page, no card number and no billing address. You pick a plan, and Apple's or Google's purchase sheet slides up from the bottom with your own account already in it. You confirm with your face, your fingerprint or your passcode, and that is that. Koach never sees your payment details: all the store confirms is that a valid subscription exists on your account. The app needs nothing more, and wants to know nothing more — how Koach handles the rest of your data is set out in your account and data.

In the browser it works differently. There the purchase does run over a payment page with a card or a direct debit, so Koach keeps its own record of your subscription. The thing to remember above all: it is one or the other. Bought in the app, and you arrange everything in the store; bought in the browser, and you arrange everything in the browser. The app only joined the picture at the launch in the App Store, and that is exactly where the confusion comes from.

The Monthly or Yearly switch

Above the two plan cards sits a switch with two positions: Monthly and Yearly. The yearly position carries a small green label, Save 17%. That is not a promotion and not a temporary offer; it is simply the difference between twelve separate months and one annual amount. You can flick the switch back and forth without anything happening — only the button under a plan card starts a purchase.

Look carefully at the amounts printed under the card, because they are laid out differently from what you might expect, and deliberately so. On the monthly setting, the monthly amount is the big number. On the yearly setting, the annual total is the big number, with the monthly equivalent small underneath it. That is on purpose: the largest figure on the screen is always the amount that genuinely leaves your account. Choose yearly and the whole year is charged in one go, not twelve times the small figure. What the two plans cost and which one fits your situation is covered in what Koach costs; this article is only about how you pay.

Beyond that, monthly versus yearly is mostly a question of how sure you are. If this is your first season on the sideline, monthly is the calmer choice: you stop whenever you like. If you know you are the sort who is planning through the off-season for the year after, yearly is cheaper and you have nothing to think about for twelve months.

Your profile always shows which plan you have and what its status is under Subscription — even when the purchase itself sits with Apple or Google.

Automatic renewal, and the 24 hours that matter

Every subscription bought in the app renews automatically. At the end of your period the same period is charged again at the same price, unless you have cancelled. That rule is spelled out in full in the small print under the plan cards — it has to be there and it is accurate, so read it once.

The clause that counts is the deadline: you have to cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancel later and the renewal simply goes through once more, and the subscription only stops a period later. On a monthly plan that costs you a month; on a yearly plan, a year. That is a store rule, not a Koach rule, and there is nothing to be done about it after the fact.

In practice: set yourself a reminder. If you already know you are stopping with this team after the season, cancel straight away. Cancelling does not mean losing your access today — you keep it until the end of the period you have already paid for.

You cancel in the store, not in Koach

Here is the question most people get stuck on. Koach has no "cancel subscription" button, and it cannot have one: Apple and Google deliberately keep cancelling in their own house, so that you always find it in the same place, for all your subscriptions at once.

Koach puts that route on the screen itself as well. The small print under the plan cards about automatic renewal says where you manage and cancel: on an iPhone that text points to Settings and your Apple Account, on Android to the Play Store and Subscriptions. The wording differs per device, because sending an Android user to an Apple menu points at something that does not exist there. On an iPhone the same instruction appears once more in your profile, under your current subscription.

What happens next is the same at both stores: the subscription stays active until the end of the current period and does not renew after that. A refund for the days you no longer use is not automatic — that is between you and the store. In Koach you have nothing to do at all: the app picks up by itself that the subscription has ended once that date has passed.

In short: if you bought in the app, you cancel in Settings under your Apple Account, or in the Play Store under Subscriptions. Koach itself has no such button, and that is a store rule rather than an oversight.

Switching: from monthly to yearly, or to another plan

Switching is not the same as cancelling, and it works differently too. To move from monthly to yearly, set the switch in Koach to Yearly and tap the plan you already have once more. The store takes it from there and handles the switch itself — Koach plays no part in it and only hears afterwards which product is now active.

If nothing changes, for instance because you picked exactly the subscription you already had, Koach says so honestly: a message tells you nothing was changed, instead of a cheerful "done" followed by a screen that flips back a second later. And if the purchase did go through but the store is still processing it, the app asks you to close it and open it again. Nothing is charged twice in that case; it is purely a matter of waiting for the confirmation to arrive.

Moving from the smaller plan up to the bigger one has its own button in your profile: Upgrade to Club. It carries over the term you are on — if you are on a yearly plan, you land on the yearly Club plan. Which plan you need is a different question from how you pay for it, and that one is answered in what Koach costs.

New device or a fresh install: Restore purchases

This is the situation where things go wrong without anything being broken. You buy a new phone, or you deleted the app and installed it again, or you sign in on a second device. Koach starts up, knows nothing yet about your purchase and shows the screen with the plans. The temptation then is to buy a second time — don't.

Under the plan cards sits the Restore purchases button. It asks Apple or Google whether your store account holds a valid Koach subscription, and puts it right immediately. If it works, you get the message that your purchases have been restored and you are in. If there is nothing there, the app tells you no active purchases were found. That last one is usually not a fault but the wrong store account: a subscription belongs to the Apple or Google account you bought it with, not to your Koach login. Sign in on your new device with a different Apple Account than the one you used back then, and there is simply nothing to find.

That same button also sits in your profile, under your subscription, and even for someone who has cancelled and is now only in Koach as a player or a parent. That is deliberate: anyone who has ever bought should always be able to find that route. For a first install on a new device, the steps are simply the ones in Koach on iPhone and Koach on Android.

On the web version: Manage subscription

If you signed up in the browser, the picture changes. Your profile then shows a Manage subscription button, which takes you to the secure environment of the payment provider. There you see your invoices, you can change your payment details and you can cancel. That is also the place for a club that keeps books and needs invoices.

On the web version, what is more, a change can take effect immediately. Move up to the bigger plan there and the app tells you the subscription is switched over straight away, with the price difference settled pro rata. That is the practical difference with the app: in the store a change follows the rhythm of your period, in the browser it happens on the spot. And however you paid, your profile always shows which plan you have and what its status is — active, trial, cancelled, payment failed or expired.

One thing stays the same in every case: cancelling is not the same as deleting. Your team, your players and your statistics stay where they are; what you lose is access to the paid features. If you want to stretch your trial a little before you decide, look at earning a Coach Month — that extends a running trial, but it does not reopen the app for a subscription that has already expired or been cancelled. And if you are at a club that pays the subscription for its coaches, you have nothing to do in a store at all: it runs through the club.

Frequently asked questions

If I delete the app from my phone, does that count as cancelling?

No. The subscription sits with Apple or Google on your store account, not in the app on your device. Delete Koach without cancelling and the store simply keeps charging you. So cancel first — in Settings under your Apple Account, or in the Play Store under Subscriptions — and only then remove the app.

Does a subscription I bought in the app also work on my laptop?

Yes. The store tells Koach there is a valid subscription on your account, and that is tied to your Koach login. Sign in to the browser with that same account and you have the same access there, without a second purchase. Managing and cancelling still happens in the store where you bought it.

What happens if a payment fails?

Your profile then shows the status Payment failed. The store usually retries a few times before the subscription really stops, so you do not lose access straight away. A new card or a different payment method is arranged in the same place you bought: with Apple or Google in your store account, and for a purchase made in the browser through Manage subscription.

Does the second coach on my team have to pay as well?

No. You pay per account that owns a team, not per person who looks in. A coach you add to your team, and your players and their parents too, come in without a subscription of their own. How many teams and coaches each plan allows belongs to the question of which plan you need, not to the question of how you pay.
