Am I getting better? Tracking your own progress as a volleyball player

"Am I actually getting better?" is the question every athlete asks — and gut feeling gives an unreliable answer. Fortunately, you can track your volleyball progress with numbers: your own profile shows how you develop across the season.

Where can you track your volleyball progress?

On your own player profile, which opens as soon as you log in with your player account. Alongside your current statistics you will find your development across the season: how your points and your attendance evolve from match to match and month to month. One good or bad match says very little — the line across the whole season tells the real story. The dashboard gives you the same numbers in brief: your attendance percentage and your points for the season at a glance. That is how tracking player development works in both directions: your coach sees the big picture, and you see your own slice of it every week.

What does attendance have to do with progress?

More than you might think. Matches show what you can do, but practice is where you learn it — a player who makes nearly every session simply develops faster than one who misses half of them. That is why your attendance percentage sits right next to your points on your profile: it is the engine behind your progress, and the only number you fully control. You do not choose your talent; you do choose to show up. Your attendance history shows whether that percentage is a habit or just an outlier from recent weeks.

What should you do with your personal goal?

At the top of your profile there may be a personal goal, set by your coach — an attack percentage, say, or a number of block points. That goal is not a grade; it is a direction: it tells you where you can gain the most this season. Talk it through with your coach: why this goal, where you stand now, and what you can do at practice to close the gap. A goal you understand works ten times better than a goal that just happens to you. And if you hit it ahead of schedule? That is the moment to pick a new bar together — growth does not stop at a ticked-off goal.

How do you handle a rough patch?

Every volleyball player has dips — an injury, a heavy exam week, or simply a month where nothing lands. Two things help. One: look at the trend, not the last match. Your coach does the same, using the growth chart and the form indicator — both measure you against your own average, not against the top scorer. Two: in the lean weeks, grab the things that are always within reach: being there, working hard and earning your attendance badges along the way. Form comes and goes; the player who keeps practising grows straight through the dip.

Tip: compare yourself with yourself. The question is not whether you score more than your teammate, but whether you can do more than you could in September — that is the only comparison that truly shows your progress.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I am improving at volleyball?

Look at the development on your player profile: your points and attendance across several months. One match says little; a rising line across the season is the real proof that you are growing.

Who sets my personal goal in Koach?

Your coach sets the goal on your profile, but it works best when you discuss it together. Ask why this goal fits you and what you can do at practice to get closer to it.

What if my statistics get worse for a while?

That is part of the game: every player has rough patches through injuries, busy weeks or plain bad luck. Keep practising, watch the trend instead of the last match, and talk to your coach if the dip drags on.
