Best volleyball score keeping app: 5 scoreboard apps compared
The short answer
The best volleyball score keeping app depends on who keeps score and what you want once the match is over. For the score alone, a free scoreboard app will do. For points per player, look at CourtsideView or Koach; Koach also rotates your lineup. For a tournament without a paper scoresheet, try VolleyStation Score.
Search for the best volleyball score keeping app and you get a long list of scoreboards that look alike at first glance. The real difference is in everything around the score: sets, serving, points per player, sharing, and what happens when the signal in the gym drops. We put five apps side by side, Koach included.
What should a volleyball scoring app do?
Keeping score sounds simple: one tap after every rally. You only notice the difference between apps in the gym, at 23-23 in the third set, when someone asks who is serving. So look at six things:
- The score and an undo button. Two big buttons, plus a way to reverse a wrong tap before the next serve. How the scoring itself works is covered in how volleyball scoring works.
- Sets and match format. Does the app close the set at 25 with a two-point lead, does it play the deciding set to 15, and can you choose how many sets you play? An app that knows this also keeps the set scores for you.
- The serving order. A scoreboard that only knows which team is serving helps less than an app that shows which jersey number is up.
- Points per player. Not everyone needs it. A parent at the scorer's table wants the score; a coach wants a stat keeper that shows who scored and how.
- Sharing afterwards. A result you drop into the team group chat with one tap, or a link that lets family follow along live.
- Working without signal. Gym Wi-Fi is often patchy at best. Check whether the developer says what happens when the connection drops.

Score your next match in KoachBest volleyball score keeping app: five apps side by side
We make Koach, so read this comparison as the work of the maker of one of the five apps. That is why the tables below only show what the developers themselves write in the App Store and on Google Play, checked in October 2026, and why every app gets a note on where it is stronger. "Not mentioned" means the store listing says nothing about it, not that the app cannot do it.
During the match, according to the developer's listing (checked in October 2026):
| App | Sets | Serving | Offline |
|---|---|---|---|
| CourtsideView | Best of 3 or best of 5 | Serving team | With limited signal |
| Volley Scoreboard | Not mentioned | Rotations | Not mentioned |
| Virtual Scoreboard | Sets, format not mentioned | Not mentioned | Yes |
| VolleyStation Score | Not mentioned | Not mentioned | Not mentioned |
| Koach | Best of 3 or up to 5 sets | Order by jersey number | Offline mode (iPhone and Android) |
After the match, plus the App Store price (checked in October 2026):

The five apps, one by one
CourtsideView
CourtsideView is built for match day. If you only want the score, you start a match without a roster. You pick best of 3 or best of 5, track sets, timeouts and the serving team, and switch to a big scoreboard view for the table or the bench. Its standout feature is FanView: a link that lets family follow the score live. Add a roster and you also log actions per player, such as kills, blocks and aces. According to the listing, it keeps working in gyms with limited signal. The app is free, runs on iPhone and iPad, and is also on Google Play. It is a young app: the first version came out in May 2026.
Volley Scoreboard
Volley Scoreboard goes by Marcador De Voleibol in the Spanish App Store. It is a volleyball scoreboard with the score, timeouts and rotations, and you manage lineups and substitutions during the match. You set team names and colours yourself. The app is free with in-app purchases, runs on iPhone and iPad and, according to the App Store, comes in twenty languages, including German, Spanish, Italian and Polish. A good pick if you want a clean scoreboard fast, with the rotation built in. The listing says nothing about stats per player; according to the release notes, you can export the match timeline.
Virtual Scoreboard
Virtual Scoreboard: Keep Score is not a volleyball app but a scoreboard for more than forty sports, volleyball among them. It has been in the App Store since 2011 and was still updated in September 2026. Next to the scoreboard you get a stat sheet for players and teams, a coach's whiteboard and live scores to share. According to the listing, you can keep scoring without an internet connection. It runs on iPhone and iPad, and on Apple Watch too, something Koach does not offer. The app is free, with Premium as an in-app purchase. A good pick if you want to keep score for other sports in the same app.
VolleyStation Score
VolleyStation Score comes from a Polish maker of volleyball software. It is made for tournaments: it replaces the paper scoresheet, turns it into a PDF, links up with AES tournament scheduling and gives you live score, play-by-play and stats per team, match and player. It is free, English only, and also on Google Play. A good pick if you want to move a tournament off paper scoresheets. For a coach who only follows their own team, it is more scoresheet than you need.
Koach
Koach is an app for volleyball coaches, and scoring is one part of it. You score with your own lineup: the serving order sits on screen as a row of jersey numbers, and the lineup rotates when you side out. On every point for your team you tap who scored and how, or that the opponent made an error. Koach runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and in the browser, in six languages. How scoring works step by step is explained in keeping volleyball score with a scoreboard app.
What Koach does during and after the match
When you start a match, you choose the Match format. Best of 3 is over at 2-0, and the third set goes to 15. With Up to 5 sets, the first four sets are always played and a fifth only at 2-2, also to 15. If your match is decided sooner, for example at 3-0, you close it with End match; that option is always there. The scores of the sets already played stay above the score.
On a point for your team, the app asks Who scored the point? and then how: Attack, Block or Serve / Ace. If the opponent gave the point away, you tap Opponent error. On a point for the opponent, you log what went wrong, or that it was simply a good ball. A wrong tap is reversed with Undo. After the match, points per player and per type are ready to view.
If the signal drops, the iPhone and Android app shows Offline mode: changes are saved on the device and synced automatically as soon as you are back online. How to prepare for that is covered in live scoring without Wi-Fi. While you score live, the screen stays on, on devices that allow it.
After the match, Share match pack has portrait images ready for the team group chat or social media. Result shares the final score with the set scores, and Star of the match the player who stood out. What goes into them is explained in the match pack.
What Koach does not do
- No live view for family. The live screen is only for coaches and for a player you authorize to keep score. Parents and fans cannot follow the score through a link, the way they can with CourtsideView or Virtual Scoreboard's live scores. If that matters most to you, one of those two is the better choice.
- Indoor volleyball only. Koach works with six players on court. If you also want to score beach volleyball or other sports in the same app, a general scoreboard is a better fit.
- Not an official scoresheet. What you score in Koach is your own record for your team, not a scoresheet for the officials. The difference is explained in score app or official scoresheet.
- No free version of Koach. You try the app free for 14 days, with no credit card, and then choose a plan.
Which volleyball scoring app is right for you?
- You are a parent or volunteer and only keep the score. A scoreboard that is free to download, such as Volley Scoreboard or Virtual Scoreboard, is all you need. If you want the score big enough for the whole gym to see, read about a digital volleyball scoreboard first.
- Family cannot make it and wants to watch live. Go with CourtsideView, for the FanView link.
- You run a tournament and want to get rid of paper scoresheets. Look at VolleyStation Score: it turns the scoresheet into a PDF and adds live score and point-by-point play-by-play.
- You are a coach and want to know who scored once the match is over. Go with Koach: you score with the same lineup you set up at home, and the numbers stay with your team. If you want an app for your whole coaching week, use the checklist for choosing a volleyball app.
You can also combine them: a parent runs the scoreboard for the gym, and the coach scores along in Koach for the stats.
What does a volleyball scoring app cost?
The other four apps are free to download; Volley Scoreboard and Virtual Scoreboard also have in-app purchases (checked in October 2026). You can try Koach free for 14 days, with no credit card and every feature. After that you choose Coach for €2.99 per month (one team, two coaches) or Club for €9.99 per month (unlimited teams). With a yearly plan you pay €2.49 or €8.33 per month. In the App Store and on Google Play you see the price in your own currency. All prices are on the pricing page.
Try a score app in a practice game first. Score a scrimmage at practice and undo one point on purpose. That way you know before your first real match whether you can find the buttons without looking. In Koach you start a game like that with Start a friendly match, without scheduling it first.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free volleyball score keeping app?
Yes. CourtsideView and VolleyStation Score are free in the App Store, and Volley Scoreboard and Virtual Scoreboard are free to download with in-app purchases (checked in October 2026). You can try Koach free for 14 days, with no credit card and every feature; after that Coach costs €2.99 per month for one team. The player account stays free.
Which volleyball scoring app can you use offline?
Virtual Scoreboard says in the App Store that you can keep scoring without an internet connection, and CourtsideView that it keeps working in gyms with limited signal. Volley Scoreboard and VolleyStation Score say nothing about it. In the Koach iPhone and Android app you see the Offline mode notice when there is no signal: what you enter stays on the device and syncs as soon as you are back online.
Can parents follow a volleyball score live on their own phone?
With CourtsideView, yes: it creates a FanView link that lets family follow the score and the flow of the match live. Virtual Scoreboard mentions live scores to share and follow. In Koach you cannot; the live screen is only for coaches and a player you authorize to keep score. After the match you can share the result and the star of the match as an image.
Does a volleyball score app keep track of the serving order?
That depends on the app. CourtsideView tracks the serving team and Volley Scoreboard the rotations. In Koach the serving order sits on the live screen as a row of jersey numbers, taken from your own lineup, and it rotates as soon as you win the serve back. So even after a timeout you see straight away who is serving.
Can I keep player stats with a volleyball scoring app?
Some apps can. CourtsideView logs actions per player, Virtual Scoreboard has a stat sheet and VolleyStation Score gives stats per team, match and player. In Koach, every time your team wins a point, you tap who scored and how (attack, block or serve), or that the opponent made an error. Afterwards you see points and errors per player, and you can share the result as an image.
