Four-corner passing loop
The ball goes around the square and every pair moves on one corner after each round. Every pass makes a ninety-degree angle, so the ball is never played back to where it came from — and that makes footwork more important here than arms.

What you are training
Passing drill in a square: the ball goes around the corners while every player follows his pass to the next corner so the square keeps rotating.
- Passing through a ninety-degree angle: the ball comes in from the side and has to go on to the next corner.
- Moving to a new corner and lining up again there straight away.
- Holding a fixed, high arc over the same distance, round after round.
Coaching points
Point your outside foot at the next corner before the ball gets there.
With your feet already turned, all you have to do is offer your platform. Turning during contact always turns into a swing.
Play at the chest of the next player, not at the corner.
The corner is a spot, the receiver is a person. A ball that arrives neatly at the corner but two meters away from the player is simply a miss.
The second player at the corner stands at an angle behind his partner.
That way a ball that is just too long can still be saved, and the square keeps turning instead of stopping.
Only move on once the ball has left your corner.
Leaving too early leaves the corner empty, and that is exactly where the circuit grinds to a halt.
Variations
- Easier
- Shrink the square to five meters a side and let the ball bounce once.
- Harder
- Reverse the direction halfway through without warning, or send a second ball round the other way.
- With six players
- Three corners instead of four: a triangle of pairs, with longer distances and sharper angles.
- As a game
- How many complete rounds does the group manage in three minutes without dropping the ball? On a mistake the count starts again.
