Triangle rotation
The ball goes round the triangle as a pass, a set and an attack, and everybody follows their own ball to the next corner. So nobody plays the same skill twice in a row, and that is exactly what makes this drill harder than it looks.
Phase 1 of 5Two triangles; in each one the first corner has the ball
This animation comes straight out of the Koach app. In the app you play it at your own pace and the positions carry your players' real names.

What you are training
Passing drill in two triangles: the ball goes pass, set, attack around the corners and each player follows his ball so the triangle keeps turning.
- Moving on after your contact instead of watching where your ball ends up.
- Three different jobs in quick succession: passing, setting and playing the ball back.
- Arriving at a new corner and being ready the moment you get there.
Coaching points
Follow your ball round the outside.
Cut straight through the triangle and you end up in the path of the next ball, which brings the drill to a stop.
Call the name of the player you are playing to.
In a rotating triangle nobody knows exactly who is standing at which corner right now. Names sort that out faster than pointing.
The setter stands with a shoulder toward the third corner.
Setting starts with the feet. Stay square to the ball and you have to steer it with your hands, and that turns into a lift.
The waiting player is already standing ready at the corner.
Changeovers are the quietest seconds of any drill. A player who is already there keeps the triangle turning.
Variations
- Easier
- Passing only instead of pass-set-attack, and the ball may bounce once in between.
- Harder
- Make the triangle bigger so every ball has to cover eight meters, or let the third corner hit the ball instead of passing it back.
- With six players
- Two triangles of three with nobody waiting; the drill keeps turning, but now nobody gets a rest.
- As a game
- Which triangle completes the most full laps in two minutes? A lap only counts once all three contacts have been made.
