Wall passing
A wall gives every ball back exactly the way you played it, which makes it the most honest training partner there is. The quarter turn after each pass forces the player to aim again every time instead of getting stuck in one position.

What you are training
Wall passing: forearm passes off the wall, a quarter turn after each pass; two full reps.
- Consistent height: every ball has to land on the same spot on the wall.
- Practicing on your own without a feeder, at a tempo the player sets themselves.
- Aiming again after every quarter turn instead of staying in one fixed stance.
Coaching points
Pick one line or one brick and aim every ball at it.
Without a target, wall passing turns into a game of catch; with a target it is immediately measurable for the player themselves.
Let the ball come back in front of your chest before you play it.
Standing right up against the wall gives you fast, flat balls, and then you are training reactions instead of technique.
Come to a stop after the quarter turn, then play.
The turn is there to train aiming again. Play while you are still turning and you steer with your trunk and lose the direction.
Play high: at least two meters up the wall.
A low ball rebounds hard and forces a short punch at it. Playing high forces a calm, still platform.
Variations
- Easier
- Throw the ball against the wall yourself, catch it, and only then pass it: one contact at a time with a pause in between.
- Harder
- Alternate one overhead pass and one forearm pass, or step back a meter after every pass until you are six meters from the wall.
- With six players
- Tape the wall off into six boxes and give everyone their own box; every thirty seconds the whole line shifts one box along.
- As a game
- How many passes in a row inside your own box? On a miss, back to zero, for two minutes. The longest streak wins.
