Reusing your practice plan with templates: never start over

Most coaches train with a fixed weekly structure: Thursday always the same shape, only different accents. Yet they rebuild the whole programme every week. A template turns that recurring work into a single button press.

What a practice template saves you

If you run the same structure week after week — warm-up, passing drill, core block, game play — you are essentially rebuilding the same skeleton every time. That is wasted time, and it invites sloppiness: you skip a block one week or forget the scoring. A template records that fixed setup once, so that when planning you start with a complete programme instead of a blank form.

Building the setup you save

A template is nothing more than an ordinary practice structure that you give a name. You assemble the practice from blocks — each block with a name, a duration and a description — and where possible you link a drill from your drill library. Once the setup is exactly how you want it every week, you save it under a recognisable name: 'Thursday standard' or 'Serve-pressure week'.

The setup you save: blocks with a name and duration, together making up exactly your practice night — build it once, reuse it every week.

Filling a new practice with your template

For a new practice date you pick your template and the practice fills itself in one go with the same blocks, durations and linked drills. The focus and the structure are there immediately; all you still do is adjust that week's accents — a different serving drill, an extra minute of game play. That way you keep the benefits of a fixed structure without the work of starting over each time. Ideal if you have a fixed weekly structure or work with recurring themes.

Multiple templates for multiple nights

Train twice a week with a different accent — Tuesday technique, Thursday match-focused — and you simply save two templates. Each template is its own starting point, and when planning you choose which skeleton fits that night. A template per practice focus works well too: a fixed setup for a serve-pressure week, one for a blocking week.

A template is a starting point, not a straitjacket. Load it, then adjust freely whatever needs to be different this week. You only change today's practice — the template itself stays untouched, ready for next time.

Frequently asked questions

What is saved in a practice template?

The complete setup: all blocks with their name, duration and description, plus any drills linked from your library. Only the date do you fill in yourself when you create a new practice from it.

Can I make multiple templates?

Yes. Most coaches keep a few: one per practice night or one per recurring theme, such as a serve-pressure week or a blocking week. When planning you choose which template fits that session.

Do my linked drills stay in the template?

Yes. A block linked to a drill from your drill library keeps that link in the template. Load the template and the same drills are right there with it.

Can I adjust a practice after loading the template?

Certainly. The template fills the practice as a starting point; after that you freely adjust whatever needs to differ this week. You only change that one practice — the saved template stays untouched.

Never start from a blank practice form again

Build your fixed setup once, save it as a template and fill a new practice every week with a single choice.
